Just Ain't So

Oh how we love to count-on things - know they will work and perform as expected. Well, God's Word says this about those who love the LORD and live according to His commands: "He will be like a ree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers." (Psalm 1:3, NASB). Honoring Christ in all our lives - what an investment in prosperity! This is not, of course, a recipe to get rich, gain more stuff, increase in materialistic things; the promised prosperity comes in the form of spiritual (non-visible) riches - peace and rest of heart, mind and spirit. As is common throughout Scripture, God gives us a contrast: "The wicked are not so, but they are like chaff which the wind drives away" (V.4). I know, wicked sounds like such a harsh word but it refers to persons who are hostile, rebellious, disobedient - the ungodly. The contrast is clear nonetheless: those who live devotedly in loving God with their words, their deeds and their whole heart - they will prosper and flourish. Those who do not, well, it ... just ain't so.
