Our Times
Do you remember the sleepy-eyed donut man who, sitting on the side of his bed, says "got to make the donuts." If we didn't love donuts so, we'd almost feel sorry for the guy! Solomon wrote in Psalm 127, "Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain. it is vain for you to rise early, to retire late, to eat the bread of anxious labors - for He gives blessings to His beloved even in his sleep." (V.1-2). A mother is well-acquainted with the labors of home and family; and, yes, she can often be found on the side of the bed facing challenges of the day ahead. The foolish make plans but it is God Himself who orders and directs our lives (Proverbs 16:9). What joy and rest for those who live in full knowledge that our times are in the hands of God (Psalm 31:15). This is the second Mother's Day since Mom left, and looking back to her devotion to home and family, I wonder how often she faced a day in wonder of how she would accomplish it all. This Sunday you'll have opportunity to honor Mom - even if it's with fond reflections and deep gratitude for the breath you're taking. Always remember: we honor Mom best when we choose to rest completely in The Father's hands. Live in honor of Mom!
