Bountiful Father
What comes to your mind when you hear the word "bountiful?" I think of a buffet where both the selection and the amount of food are ... plentiful, bountiful. The psalmist prayed to God, "Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your Word. Open my eyes that I may behold wonderful things from Your Law." (Psalm 119:17-18). At a buffet, it's hard to take-in all that is there; so it is with the bounty of God's Word to us. The psalmist's words tell us he knows there is a bountiful supply of wisdom and truth in God's Word. He also knows there is more to see and he says, "Lord, show me more!" Lacking in our lives I fear is a deep longing, a genuine hunger and thirst, desperation for the things of God. Jesus promised, "Blesed [joyful, nourished by God's goodness] are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness [those who actively seek right standing with God], for they will be [completely] satisfied." (Matthew 5:6, AMP). What are your waking thoughts of the day? Is is to be close and closer and closer still to The Father, or do those thoughts drift-in later in the day as after-thoughts? God's Word is a buffet of bountiful supply - yes, of Truth and Wisdom but also of The Father Himself. Follow hard after Him - Ask Him to show you more - He is the ... Bountiful Father.
