Remember Caleb
Among names, the name "Caleb" is a good one! We have a Caleb in our blessed basket of Grands and he seems to be living-up to his Biblical namesake. You may recall it was only Caleb and Joshua who spied out the Promised Land and returned confident God would deliver it to them; they were rewarded for their trust in God and allowed to cross the Jordan River and enjoy the land. Forty-five years later, read what Caleb said to Joshua: "I am still as strong today as I was in the day Moses sent me; as my strength was then, so my strength is now, for war and for going out and coming in. Now then, give me this hill country about which the LORD spoke on that day, for you heard on that day that Anakim were there, with great fortified cities; perhaps the LORD will be with me, and I will drive them out as the LORD has spoken." (Joshua 14:11-12, NAMB). That "hill country" was filled with giants and fortified cities - now, who would want that land and all the struggles that came with it! We face our own share giants and strongholds in this life, and we tend to do our best to avoid them! What deep faith Caleb had in his Jehovah Sabaoth - The Lord of Hosts! So, "Joshua blessed [Caleb] and gave Hebron to Caleb ... Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb ... because he followed the LORD God of Israel fully ... then the land had rest from war" (V.13-15). Yes, Hebron (meaning communion) became Caleb's inheritance, and he enjoyed sweet fellowship with God because he trusted God instead of feared giants. What giants are you facing? Remember ... Caleb.
