The Better Thing

In general, people love options. The older-me, however, can really get stumped with options. Perhaps it's the fear of choosing unwisely, but sometimes just one choice suits me fine. Options may be one of Satan's most effective weapons. There are so many things put before us to consume our time, energy, talents and resources ... and, many of those are really good options! "Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, 'Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.' But the Lord answered and said to her, 'Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.'" (Luke 10:38-42, NASB). Martha was being the good host, as we would also have done, but her "good" choice was not her "best" choice. At the feet of Jesus is where every Believer should desire to be but we [too] are often distracted-worried-bothered by many otherwise "good" things that keep us from what [Jesus said] is the one necessary thing. Too many options can be deadly to our spiritual lives. One thing is necessary ... choose the better thing.
