Perfect Gift

“Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.” —Hebrews 2:14–15

 

By now, most of us should be close to having selected just the right gift for each person on our list … yeah, I know – there’s always that one person we struggle to buy for!  Before the foundation of the world – before time – God knew exactly what man would need, and how much it would cost Him.  “Good Friday is the reason for Christmas … What a great Christmas present from God to us!” (John Piper, Good News of Great Joy).  Consider that you and I had no choice to be flesh-and-blood; Christ chose it!  It was the way He would become and bear sin for us.  What an amazing – perfect – Christmas present!
