Good As Done

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David, as He spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us …” (Luke 1:68-71)

“For the mind of faith, a promised act of God is as good as done.” (John Piper, Good News of Great Joy, Day 3).  Who among us celebrates the completion of something before it is completed!  This is exactly what Zechariah, father of John, did in his prophetic passage in Luke 1:67-79.  While all of Israel, including  Zechariah, anticipated the prophesied Messiah to soothe and free Israel from its oppressors, Zechariah celebrates: “The God of Israel has visited and redeemed.” (1:68).  Scripture is clear all God’s work is good-as-done – “It is the LORD’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21).  “Power and might are in Your hand, and no one can withstand You.” (2 Chronicles 7:26).  Ask, then, how much do I believe this?  Do I believe it enough to celebrate the end of the present struggles, the current storm I’m in?  Do I have  the mind of faith that genuinely trusts a promised act of God is as good as done?  Let us examine our faith, its depth, and be inspired to celebrate the promised end of God’s [ongoing] work in our lives.
