Mirror Time
The 1974 song, “O Lord, It’s Hard To Be Humble” tells a profound truth about human nature: O, Lord, it’s hard to be humble – When you’re perfect in every way – I can’t wait to look in the mirror … . The lyrics are quite humorous but not-so humorous. The message of grace given for the humble is one repeated countless times in Scripture – James 4:6, 1 Peter 5:5, Proverbs 3:34, Isaiah 66:2, Proverbs 16:18, Philippians 2:3, Proverbs 29:23 – to name only a few. What a dilemma, this far-and-deep reaching intent to promote self. This is exactly why spiritual exhaling or confession is needed every day. I suggest a great time and place to do so is each time we look in the mirror. Why not develop the habit of confessing the sin of selfish pride – when we look into the mirror – and accepting the refreshing grace of forgiveness and humility. What a great idea, Mac!
