Emptiness

Empty is a relevant word these days: empty parking lots, empty store shelves, empty parks, empty stadiums, empty schools, empty church pews - to name a few. It's shouldn't surprise anyone emptiness is so unpopular! Paul wrote, "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich." (2 Corinthians 8:9). The idea of poverty isn't very appealing yet Jesus knew it was necessary for my benefit, and for yours. I remember Mrs Reba, a childhood hero; she was beautifully simple and of very meager means, but truly rich. It seems the less she had, the more she gave and the richer she became. Maybe soon parking lots, parks and stadiums, schools and churches will once again be filled. Let us consider our own emptiness, and understand our spiritual richness begin with poverty. Embrace emptiness!
