His Good Work
It's not really what wooden spoons are for, of course, but my boys knew a wooden spoon in Mama's hand meant trouble! It's more than interesting how God chooses to use the simplest of men and means to accomplish His purposes. There are many examples in Scripture but one of my favorites is an otherwise obscure Asian woman who made her living selling purple dye, which was used to produce some of the finest and most brilliant colored fabric. Lydia met Paul, heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ and believed, becoming the first Gentile (non-Jewish) convert! Acts 16:12-15 and Philippians 1:1-10 tell us how God used Lydia's love for Christ, her hospitality and business influence to nurture and spread The Gospel throughout Europe. Sometimes as Believers we hold a very small view of how God wants to use us; we fail to realize even the smallest of things we do and decisions we make become huge in the hands of God. There are many among us who are physically weak and/or limited yet strong and immeasurable to The Kingdom. Also, there are some who have great resources and abilities but neglect to listen to God and be faithful in the small things. Galatians 6:9 - "Let us not grow weary in well-doing for in due season we will reap, if we faint not." Let me encourage you to remember how God can and will use us for His good work!
