No Shortcut
Shortcuts are a popular way of getting from Point A to Point B in less time. Generally, I'm not a a fan of shortcuts because I've been lost more times than not ... taking a shortcut. Much like the savory flavor of a slow-cooked ham, spiritual maturity doesn't come by taking shortcuts. "Like newborn babies [you should] long for the pure milk of the Word, so that by It you may be nurtured and grow in respect to Salvation." (1 Peter 2:2). The purpose of studying God's Word isn't just to learn but to become mature in your faith. Earning a secular degree in any subject requires years of faithfully attending class, studying, testing, training and application; in the same way Believers grow their faith. The difference in secular and spiritual education, however, is The Holy Spirit teaches, imparting The Truth of God's Word into the very heart and soul of the Believer. "For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12). Oft times to my horror, Mister Bill takes a shortcut. Know this: there is no shortcut from spiritual milk to solid food! I encourage you to keep loving the milk as you move from spiritual infancy to maturity. No shortcuts!
