Obedience Rewarded
It's pretty exciting to receive a reward - whether it's points at the gas pump or a free drink with a meal - rewards are fun. We enjoy these kinds of rewards because we've read and understood the rules then done as instructed. Spiritual rewards, however, are usually different: we don't always understand the rules until after we obey them. "I am Your servant; give me understanding [the ability to learn and a teachable heart] that I may know Your testimonies." (Psalm 119:125). The key word here is "servant" - by definition, what does a servant do? He obeys his master! In our obedience to God's Word (His commands and instructions), we gain understanding and wisdom. Unfortunately, too many times we are slow-to-learn because we are rebellious lacking that "teachable heart" of which the psalmist writes. The reward of obedience isn't a game of chance; no! God's commands are neither burdensome nor are they undependable. When we commit to live God's Way, according to His Word, we can be absolutely confident ... our obedience is rewarded.
