In-Tune
Singing is gift - at least that's how I see it - a God-given way to express ourselves! Some people say they can't "carry a tune in a bucket" so they limit their singing to very private moments. As a musician, I understand how we want to sing the right notes and be in-tune. Most important to the child of God, however, is living a life in-tune with God's heart. Too often His commands are seen as a list of do's and don't's, which can be lead to legalistic living ... living from the outside-in rather than inside-out. David prayed, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer." (Psalm 19:14 NASB). It's the heart that God wants in-tune with His! It's not what we do; rather, it is who we are in the inner most part. In 1758 Robert Robinson wrote these words: "Come thou Fount of every blessing - Tune my heart to sing Thy grace - Streams of mercy, never ceasing - Call for songs of loudest praise - Teach me some melodious sonnet - Sung by flaming tongues above - Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it - Mount of Thy redeeming love." The great message of this wonderful old hymn of faith is we all have reason to sing so from a heart aligned with God's, let us always and ever sing ... in-tune.
