Set On Jesus

Fishin' ain't my thing (excuse the grammar) but I've lived around fishermen long enough to learn a few things. One thing I know is that once the fish has the hook in its mouth and gives a small jerk, it's time for the fisherman to "set the hook." Another way to say it is ... it takes a jerk at both ends! Writing to followers of Jesus, Paul said "set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth." (Colossians 3:2 ESV). That Greek word "set" carries the idea of look no further for something on which to fix-adjust-arrange-appoint your mind: fix your heart on things not of this world ... rather, fix your eyes on Jesus. For those of the new birth (in Christ Jesus), we are to no longer be drawn-to worldliness. As the old hymn goes, "Turn your eyes upon Jesus - Look full in His wonderful face - And the things of earth will grow strangely dim - In the light of His glory and grace." The proper setting for my heart, for your heart ... set on Jesus.
