Wait Well

The phrase "oh, the places you'll go" was made famous as a book title by Dr Seuss. The reader eventually finds himself in a place called "The Waiting Place," a place where everyone seems to be waiting for something to happen. Generally speaking, we don't ... wait well! Interestingly, it's been wisely noted those who sit in a doctor [in "waiting" room" are his "patience," which usually requires ... patience! Scripture instructs us on the importance of being patient, on waiting: Psalm 27:14 "Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!" ... Micah 7:7 "But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me." ... Psalm 130:5 "I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope" ... Psalm 33:20 "Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield." ... Lamentation 3:25 "The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him." We live in a get-it-done world, expectations of instant results: quick cash, drive-through car washes, grab-and-go meals, etc. We are not encouraged to wait but God says "Put on as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience" (Colossians 3:12 ESV). God also assures us that those who "wait for the Lord shall renew their strength ... shall mount up with wings like eagles ... shall run and not be weary ... shall walk and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31). Oh my, there are great results and rewards for those who rightfully take their seat in the waiting place. By grace, let's learn to ... wait well.
