Be About It

The older-us choose to shop closer to home but even then the stops in "town" are with an intended purpose - typically written down on a piece of paper! May it never be said of us [Believers] that we have ... nothing to do. Although we have the grand and glorious promise of eternal rest, we are to be about-much until that time. God said to His people before they crossed the Jordan into The Promised Land: "You shall not do at all what we are doing here today, every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes; for you have not as yet come to the resting place and the inheritance which the LORD your God is giving you." (Deuteronomy 12:8-9, NASB). How many times have you, first in the morning hours, asked The Lord, "what will you have me to do today?" In his second letter to the Thessalonian Christians, Paul said, "we hear that some among you walk in idleness" (2 Thessalonians 3:11, ESV) - that was not intended to be a compliment! While we may look forward to that time of eternal rest [from many things], there is much yet to do. "Oh, there is a fathomless depth of divine wisdom in the arrangement that keeps us so long out of heaven." (Octavius Winslow). I like that - the "arrangement" of our lives; Sovereign God didn't just redeem us to move idly through life without poise and purpose. Rather, He has designed our lives with precision to accomplish His will and to His glory. We are "detained on earth" by God's Sovereign will so ... be about it.
