Wonder of Christ

“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” —John 20:30–31

What causes you to wonder?  To “wonder” is to have a “feeling of surprise, mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected unfamiliar, or inexplicable.”  John Piper writes, “… Something must be done to help us once more feel the awe, the fear, the astonishment, the wonder of the Son of God, begotten by the Father, from all eternity, reflecting all the Glory of God, being the very image of His Person, through Whom all things were created, upholding the universe by the word of His power.” (Good News of Great Joy).  The angels’ message astonished the shepherds, His star drew the Magi to the manger, His birth caused Mary to treasure and ponder that happened.  Isaiah (9:6) called the Savior “Wonderful” – One of marvel, extraordinary… wonder.  Jesus isn’t a figure in history to know about but rather the One to believe in.  Let us be in awe of the Christ!
