Abundantly New
"Thrifting" is a popular thing to do - I admit, I'm not so good at it. There is a local place, however, I love to go. It's full of items that once had their place in someone's home. Isn't it wonderful each new day comes with its own new opportunities! God has said His mercies are "new every morning" (Lamentations 3:23); we do not have to "borrow" (go a'thriftin') for mercy and strength for the day. "Do you now possess the needed strength to perfectly accomplish each holy requirement? We do not. We are weak and inconsistent, and often buffeted by fear and pride and selfishness. But being impoverished and ill-equipped as we are, we will look to the grace of God and to the sanctifying work of The Spirit to accomplish His purposes in and through this day, as we, in grateful response, seek to choose that which pleases Him." (Every Moment Holy). When Believers genuinely understand our weakness then embrace His Power, our first conscious thought of the day is "Lord, empower me this day according to Your eternal riches for the glory of Your Name." For sure, there is nothing "thrifty" about His mercies - they are abundantly new each day!
