First Food
Don't we love a dinner invitation! Whether well in advance or impromptu, gathering around the table with friends - well, it's just nice! Hear Jesus' invitation to His disciples, "Come and dine" (John 21:12, KJV). Although the use of the Greek word "dine" later came to refer to dinner, its original meaning was breakfast - the first food of the day. "Dining" with Jesus should always be the first food and certainly it is the best food. Spurgeon reminds us, "To look at Christ is to live, but for strength to serve Him you must 'come and dine.'" Nutritionists tell us how important is that first meal of the day - "don't skip breakfast," they say! Will you commit a few deliberate early moments of the day to dining with Christ in order to know His nearness and fellowship? There's nothing quite like that ... first food.
