Good Medicine
When was the last time you were frantic - highly excited and emotional, frenzied? Maybe it's better you not go back there! I suppose we all longingly imagine quiet unhurried mornings, the aroma of coffee and lingering in our pajamas ... we know, of course, that doesn't describe most of our days. No, our days are typically busy, hectic, hurried with our minds and bodies and spirits racing from one thing to the next. God says in Proverbs 12:25 "anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down" so I suppose many of us are carrying a pretty heavy load! In her hymn, "Lord, Speak to Me that I May Speak," Frances Havergal (1836-1879) wrote these words: "Oh, give Thine own sweet rest to me - That I may speak with soothing pow'r - A word in season, as from Thee - To weary ones in needful hour." To effectively speak "gracious words" to someone -- Proverbs 16:24 words as from a honeycomb, words sweet to the soul and health to the body - we must first hear and receive them from The Father. "A joyful heart is good medicine" (Proverbs 17:22). Frantic should never describe a child of God; no, we should always be .. good medicine.
