Greatest Friend - Part 3

Some friends just get better with time.  One might say, “aged to perfection!”  They’re much like that well-worn dusty book on the shelf that we reach for and open up to find its words more precious and sweetened with time. We know, then, we’ll never part with it!

The psalmist tells us to “taste and see” that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8)!  Most definitely, we should take God’s word for it, but we don’t have to: He longs to prove Himself our Greatest Friend. Research tells us pets help people combat loneliness, depression and isolation.  This is good news, of course, but they only BEGIN to give us what we really need.  The Gospel writers of the New Testament record how Jesus delivered people from mental, emotional and physical illnesses.  This is only a smidge of what we can expect from the Hand of God when He returns. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." (Revelation 21:4) He is certainly Greatest Friend right here and now but it’s gonna get better.  When Friend returns and eternity begins, we will see the full extent of what God can do for us.  Oh, the delight of an eternity with Greatest Friend!
