Make Today Count

Alligator River! Sounds scary, but to reach the island of Manteo -- it had to be crossed! The Lindsey C. Warren Bridge looked sturdy enough and seemed to offer safe passage. Situated nicely at the edge of the bridge was a beautiful lighthouse ... definitely a photo stop. The lighthouse picture turned out beautiful with the bridge in the background and the island of Manteo in the distance. The picture held absolutely no clue that it was ... only a replica of a real lighthouse!

Have you ever stopped to consider the wind and shadows in your life? Oh, I don't mean wind that blows or shadows cast. I mean things, stuff, and activities that matter so very little ... in the big picture. More stuff, bigger things, and more activities always leave us breathless and reaching for more ... things, stuff, activities. Sometimes my whining comes from my own reaching and stretching for more – more – more. More is not always best -- actually, more is usually tiring ... except more of what matters most. What does matter most? Children that are best at sports, school, and etc. or -- , children who become responsible adults? Careers that really bring home the bucks or -- time devoted to eternal treasures? Gathering the most toys or -- giving away till it hurts? If we stop and consider the pricey end to these questions, the answer is eternally clear. We will never capture the wind or embrace the shadows. "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." (James 4:14)  Life is priceless yet brief so … make today count.
