Live Well

Every morning, and I mean every morning – by the way, did I say every morning – I hear an advertisement for a weight loss program.  I can repeat it verbatim, and oh how I wish I couldn’t!  My sister joined the program once, ate their pre-packaged foods, and even lost weight.  She actually has the best commercial: “Join today and lose $600.”

Who doesn’t want to live well.  Whether it’s physical, emotional, or spiritual well-being, it’s what we desire.  Although the message is often otherwise, God truly wants us to live a positive and productive life.  Many of our early life goals include wise choices about education, health, investments – all of which are good.  It’s common, however, we are [shall I say] less than diligent with regard to core spiritual principles as God instructs.  Interestingly, the Book of Proverbs is full of wise instruction about instruction: “Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is the life.” (Proverbs 4:13). While not all instructions are matters of life and death, when God gives instruction it is intended as His best for our best.  We’re not always quick to see His way as best: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” (Proverbs 14:12).  The best investment for living well is “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5).  We are wise to trust the LORD completely; our trust is never misplaced.  It is the only way to … live well.
