His Good Work

Although a good principle, "when the going gets tough, the tough get going," I prefer "when the going gets tough, take a nap." Unfortunately, many Believers also prefer the latter when it comes to allowing God to perfect His work in us. At the well outside the city of Nahor, Rebekah exhibited a woman devoted to hard work, generosity, purity and kindness; she went well beyond the call of duty - offering water to a thirsty traveler; she also watered his ten camels! Specifically chosen by God to be part of The Messiah's lineage, Rebekah's future couldn't have been more promising. Somewhere along the way, however, her trust in The God Who chose her faltered; she plotted and schemed to bring about what God had already promised and purposed would be concerning her two sons [Esau and Jacob]: "the older shall serve the younger" (Genesis 25:23) - Jacob would receive Isaac's blessing, the birthright that customarily would have been Esau's. Now, plotting and scheming may not be what we call it, but how do we rationalize our impatience with God? Do we really believe "Faithful is He Who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass" (1 Thessalonians 5:24)? Is it a casual thing to us that "He Who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus" (Philippians 1:6)? I suggest genuine trust in God [Who is faithful in His calling us to obedience] will be evidenced by our patience as He brings to pass His Perfect Plan and Purpose in our lives. Are you struggling or growing impatient to see God's Good Work in your life? Don't get ahead of God; be obediently patient and watch ... His Good Work.
