Steer On

Have you ever taken your hand(s) off the steering wheel? I suspect we all have if just for a moment. Sure seems much of our world has lost its steering altogether! The winds of change, fear and cynicism are blusterous. Believers should never be rattled by such things: "we know that all things work together for good to them that love God." (Romans 8:28). There seems to be two words in this promise that stump Believers - "know" and "good." We say we know it but fail to put the belief into practice, which becomes a reflection of what we really believe about God Himself. Then we fail to apply "good" to God's perfect plan and purpose; instead, we base "good" on what the world considers to be so. Spurgeon writes, "wherever providence may drift, Jehovah steers it ... that reassuring knowledge prepares him [the Believer] for everything." When things seem out-of-control, there is One Who is supremely over all. "Say not my soul, 'From whence can God relieve my care?' - Remember that Omnipotence has servants everywhere - His method is sublime, His heart profoundly kind - God never is before His time, and never is He behind." Trust Him as He ... steers on.
