Drink Deeply

Watching “hummingbird wars” can be entertaining: thirsty birds harassing even body-slamming one another! It’s sad how many Believers seem more interested in just hanging around rather than partaking of what Christ offers. The psalmist wrote, “For with You is the Fountain of Life.” (Psalm 36:9). To observe a fountain spring of fresh water in mid-day heat is one thing but to enter it and be be refreshed by it is very different. Even in fear of body-slams, those thirsty little birds keep returning to the source of sweet nectar. Why? Why? Because they have tasted its goodness! “Hope deferred makes the heart sick; a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.” (Proverbs 13:12). Oh, why not “let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms, and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” (Colossians 3:16). If you have indeed tasted the rich and abundant and fulfilling sustenance of a personal relationship with Jesus, you know - yes, you know - there's no other so sweet nor soul-satisfying. Drink deeply!
