Breathe After Him

How important is breathing to you? I'm pretty confident it ranks high on everyone's list of priorities. Breathing powers our bodies! Thomas Watson wrote, "Christians should above all things breathe after heart purity." Oh, we "breathe after" many things; that is, we pursue and follow-after an endless list of otherwise good things. What we breathe-after will always tell-the-tale of the heart's greatest passions and appetites. Jesus said, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness" (Matthew 6:33) - that sure sounds like what should top every Child of God's list of priorities. How do we do this?  I suggest a good place to begin is in "whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord" (Colossians 3:22). There is no task too lowly, no word irrelevant, no moment too casual, no person insignificant - everything we do has potential to be lived in the righteousness of Christ, a glorifying opportunity to God's call on our lives. Directed by the truth of God's Word and enabled by the power of The Holy Spirit, can live-out The Gospel. It's one way we can obediently ... breathe after Him.
