Power Over The Pits
Soon peach trees will bloom and bring us those sweet juicy peaches - great for homemade ice cream! As delectable as a fresh peach is, we do not find the pit pleasing. God's Word speaks of another kind of pit - a natural or artificial cavity or hole. "If a man does not repent ... he travails with wickedness, and he conceives mischief and brings forth falsehood. He has dug a pit and hollowed it out, and has fallen into the hole which he made." (Psalm 7:12, 14-15). It's crazy how little repentance is preached from pulpits today! Repentance is a deliberate, radical, 180-degree turn away from sin. Believers should find themselves confessing and repenting regularly as they grow in holiness before The Lord. When we do not, we indeed dig a pit into which we find ourselves a reluctant victim. David wrote, "O LORD my God, in You I have taken refuge; save me from all those who pursue me, and deliver me." (Psalm 7:1). As we call upon The Lord for protection and refuge from the enemy, we [too] should ask God save us from ourselves, knowing "He Who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit Who dwells in you." (Romans 8:11). Are you stranded in a pit or struggling to navigate the pits of life? Call on Christ Who gives Life and The Holy Spirit Who gives us Power ... over the pits!
